Why I Do What I Do.

I do what I do because I truly have no choice. This is who I am.

I do what I do because I must help others. I do what I do because it fuels my soul. Because human connection is everything. I do what I do because in this compartmentalizing brain of my mine, when life wears on me a bit and I find myself needing a freaking helmet, grasping for my purpose, for some reassurance, for some truth and direction, I am able to find solace in the fact that "I am helping others".

I do what I do because I've been there. I am also human. I've been there, feeling out of control of my own body, and not in a beautiful way. I've been there not fitting into my jeans...then wondering why I even need to "fit into my jeans"...then knowing that I am more than my jean size...and then realizing I also want to be happy and healthy and comfortable...and not want to buy a new wardrobe. Ah, the mental battle.

I do what I do because I have had people tell me how skinny I am, as if that is a good thing. Then came more attention. Then came modeling (which is "cool"?). Then came way too much pressure and simply the inability to be anything less than what I deemed as perfect (still working on this).

I do what I do because I believe in it. We must take good care of our bodies, as they do so much for us. And really, this whole thing on Earth ends when they give out on us. Let's strengthen them.

I do what I do because it has changed my life for the better.

I do what I do because I know that when your health gets in the way of what you want to achieve, be it running around with your kids, spending time with your friends, accomplishing your dreams, it sucks.

I do what I do because sometimes we all need a little bit of help. While we must express gratitude for all that we have - this incredible beating heart that we were so effortlessly gifted with, this sun that continues to rise and shine day after day, this food that nourishes our body that most of us have readily available to us, this family that loves us through thick and thin - I believe that it is equally as important to recognize that life can be difficult at times, whether it lasts 30 seconds or 10 years. Sometimes we need a little help. I aim to provide that help in a real, honest, loving, fun and affective way.

I do what I do because in this crazily beautiful world, we juggle a lot - thoughts, emotions, judgements, commitments, relationships, finances, social calendars, all of it. As we go through, we develop tools to help us get through this whole thing. I aim to empower you with these tools. These tools will vary from person to person but my goodness I know some of mine - movement, sleep, good nutrition, meditation, sunshine, family, love, community, gratitude, nature and a damn good tribe (shout out to my girls and dad!) to be specific. These tools help me live my life the way that makes me feel good - good in my body, good in my mind and good in my inner being. They have changed my personal game, and I know, human to human, they can change yours too.

I do what I do because eating healthy, nourishing foods makes me feel like a million bucks and keeps me trucking along...soaring along actually.

I do what I do because movement, UGH MOVEMENT, always reconnects me with who I am. It instantly makes me feel better - more confident, less stuck, more connected. It makes my head that seemingly spins and spins and spins go "HEY YOU, SHUT UP! You are here. Now." It connects me to my heart, which I often have difficulty with, by breaking down my physical body so that my mind and heart really come into play. Sometimes I choose to get real with it. Other times I just want to shape up my arms to feel good in a tank top. Is this wrong? Sue me. Just kidding please don't - I am not a doctor.

I do what I do because I believe that movement is healing. There are so many benefits to it - brain, heart, mind, weight, bones, etc. Movement breeds strength. We learn what we are actually capable of in a very matter of fact, obvious way, right then and there. There you are, hi body!, literally in real time doing exactly what you thought you couldn't do. There it is!

I do what I do because offering people a safe space to be themselves is necessary, whether it is in a studio dancing their hearts out or talking with me one-on-one. I want to provide a space for you to ditch what you came in with before, even if only for an hour.

I do what I do because I have been the student literally bopping down the street after a good workout class with all of those yummy endorphins running through my veins - day changed, mood elevated, happiness upped, confidence in tact. Here is where other people reap the benefit too ("hi homeless man, here is $5" because I feel good today, "have a good day" to the barista swamped behind the Starbucks bar, "I'm here for you to listen and help" to a friend that calls crying, because I feel good enough to be able to hold the space for you today).

I do what I do because it is so easy to just go on by feeling uncomfortable being who you are - but this doesn't have to be the way.

Once we learn our tools, our lives become more manageable and more beautiful. With this comes happiness. With this comes a better human race. Call it a far stretch if you want, but I've seen it done. I've lived it. And I want to share it with you.

I do what I do because I care and I must try to help. If not for your sake, then for mine.
