Oh boy, where to begin…I have been cooking for as long as I can remember. It all started with Nigella Lawson, the English chef that made incredibly tasty and decadent meals. I can picture it like it was yesterday – me standing in the kitchen (I must have been standing on a chair because I don’t think I was big enough to reach), at the island with all of my ingredients laid out in front of me, and Nigella Lawson on the tiny white TV we had in the corner of the family kitchen (it had a VHS slot, mhmm). My favorite dish to make: her Creamy Lemon Linguine. The ingredients were, I kid you not, lemon, pasta, cheese, cream, egg, salt, and butter. Ah, how my eating habits have changed. Let me tell you though, that dish was outstanding.
I just fell in love with the process. I wanted to craft something delicious for everyone and have them react in awe. I must have been 7. Nothing has changed.
I spent years of my life “playing restaurant” where I would design menus, set the table, play server, and then make the whole meal and plate it out. Oh, and everyone received a check at the end of the meal of course. My poor family. Even when they weren’t participating, I’d play by myself with fake customers. Little did I know it was all part of a much larger plan.
Starting when I was just nine years old, I would help my neighbor prep for her NYE party every year, and eventually land a catering job at 14 (yes this may be illegal and I definitely had a lot of responsibility). Then, my obsession with health began.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get into health for the right reasons. What started from total lack and desire to fit into a mold that I thought was necessary to be loved, thankfully shifted into a place of abundance and healing. After trying diet after diet for years, continuing my health education, and putting in loads of personal work, something in me shifted. I began to view eating well as an act of self love. I began to view the right foods as medicine, community, and love.
I always say that nutrition is kind of a gateway drug. We all eat multiple times a day, every single day. The relationship that we have with food is not one that we can run away from. We need food as fuel. When you begin to spend time bringing awareness to the foods you are eating and how they are making you feel, you begin to bring this awareness with you into other areas of your life -relationships, movement practices, self-talk, etc. It is just the beginning of a much larger journey. It changes your life.
Food is medicine. There is no doubting it anymore. However, it is also love, community, fun, and passion. Choose wisely and have fun with it. Allow it to feel good, and of course, taste amazing

My love of food started very young, from standing on my tippy toes watching my mom in amazement and curiosity in our kitchen, to visiting relatives in Puerto Rico and seeing all of the women in my family bonding while cooking. I remember watching cooking shows on TV with my dad when Iwas desperately avoiding having to go to bed. Food has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember.
Food is so insanely powerful. It has the ability to heal you, nourish you, grow you, bring you back to specific moments in time. Food is celebration – it brings people together. Think about it, more often than not how do we celebrate occasions? We gather around food, or food gathers around us.
It’s always been my nature to serve others love, including making them delicious food. I can honestly say few things compare to how I feel when someone takes a bite of something I made, and their face changes in delight.
It wasn’t until my second year of college that I realized I really wanted to be in the kitchen. I sent in an application to Le Cordon Bleu and never looked back. Following my education I gained experience in several different restaurants and only further grew my love of cooking, leading me to a dear friendship and eventually career with Hannah.
My passion for showing others how delicious nourishing food can be, and shifting the relationship with food from stressful and restrictive comes from my own struggles. I never want someone else to feel the way I did. If this applies to you, know you are not alone. There is a way to turn it all around with real love and real food.
I have learned alongside our clients that food really is medicine, and that life is all about balance. There is a steady and compassionate way to grow into the highest expression of yourself, and it starts with the food on your fork.
